Review - Love Crunch

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Nature's Path Organic has introduced Love Crunch! This premium organic granola comes in four delicious flavors - Dark Chocolate and Red Berries, Carrot Cake, Apple Crumble and Aloha Blend. The Dark Chocolate and Red Berries has big chunks of fruit and dark chocolate, plus coconut and cocoa. Each 30g serving has 14g of whole grains, has zero trans fat, zero cholesterol, and low sodium. Plus, it's absolutely delicious! I was eating it straight out of the bag. My teenage son always magically appears when I open food and he thinks Love Crunch is great too.

I've never heard of Carrot Cake flavored granola, so I was really excited to try it. I grabbed a nonfat vanilla yogurt and dropped a handful of Love Crunch on top. It's filled with raisins, pecans, carrots and pineapples. It tasted wonderful. I used to think if something tastes good, it couldn't be good for you. I don't think like that anymore! The Apple Crumble granola is filled with pecans, delicious dried green apples, chia and cinnamon. I loved this flavor and the apple chunks are so good. I put a handful on top of yogurt to try it and it's delicious!

The Aloha Blend became a bowl of cereal with some added rice milk. It's just as amazing when the granola is softened a bit with milk. Big chunks of pineapple float with coconut and white chocolate chunks in this flavor-fest. Love Crunch is certified organic and non-GMO. And to share the love even more, for every bag of Love Crunch that is purchased, Nature's Path Organic donates an equal amount to food banks in food or cash, up to a million dollars! What Does Non-GMO Mean?

I've noticed on several of your giveaways, the products are listed as Non-GMO. What the heck does that mean anyways?

Dear Gena - That's a really great question! A GMO is a Genetically Modified Organism. It basically means that the plant or animal is genetically engineered. It's an experimental organism made in a laboratory. A GMO is created with the DNA from other plants, other animals, bacteria and viruses. GMO ingredients are found in about 80% of the packaged foods in the USA. Currently there is no requirement for companies to reveal on their packaging whether or not they use GMOs. So when you see a package that says Non-GMO, you know that company is not using these genetically modified organisms. Curious why companies use GMOs? One reason is to modify plant seeds to contain built-in herbicide. Another reason is to modify seeds to make it resistant to the brand of herbicide they use. Cakedy Candy Bars - Review

Do you like cake? Do you like candy bars? Then you will LOVE these Cakedy Candy Bars. These are the ultimate indulgence of cake and frosting with a candy shell. They come in three incredible flavors...the Peanutter, the Redhead, and the Choco Chocatus.

The white Cakedy is the Redhead flavor, made with strawberry cake nougat and strawberry chips, covered in vanilla. It is a heavenly dessert!!! The other flavor I received is their best seller, the Peanutter, made with peanut butter cake, chocolate chips and a chocolate candy shell. After my delicious two-bite taste test, I shared with my teenager because I'm pretty sure these aren't weight-loss-diet approved (but they are worth every calorie).

Review and Giveaway Sweetheart Designs by Ute

Ute McClain is an amazing jewelry designer. Look at these gorgeous Hearts on Fire Earrings I got from her Etsy Store Sweetheart Designs by Ute. I spent close to an hour looking at all her beautiful creations and had a hard time deciding which one to choose. I love the violet and blue hues of the heart stones and love the way the light catches them.

They were packaged in white gift box with cotton, and shipped in a bubble envelope. They arrived very quickly and in perfect condition. Even my husband remarked how pretty my "new bling" was! Ute will do custom jewelry designs for you, and even wedding party designs are available.

Her Etsy shop has around 200 unique jewelry designs so there is definitely something for everyone. You can choose from earrings, necklaces, bracelets and even hairsticks. Review Beanitos Bean Chips

In my quest for weight loss, I've taken an interest in finding the best-tasting foods that are good for me. I found a company right here in Austin Texas that makes Beanitos bean chips. I've never had a bean chip and had no idea what to expect, but I'm willing to try all kinds of new things just so I can tell you what I think.

Beanitos come in four different flavors...Black Bean, Pinto Bean, Cheddar Cheese and Chipotle BBQ. I opened a bag of each and poured them into bowls. The single serve packages are 1.25 oz and I was actually surprised at how many bean chips were in a bag. These are a healthier choice than corn chips and potato chips.

I like all four of their flavors, but the Chipotle BBQ are my absolute favorite. They are amazingly delicious! Sweet and tangy with a zip to it, a great combination of tastes. The Cheddar Cheese flavor comes in second, with a tie for the Black Bean and Pinto Bean. None of the flavors come in last, because they are all yummy.

They are corn free, gluten free, non-GMO, and certified low glycemic. They are high in fiber and have 6 grams of complete protein in each bag. Each serving has only 10 grams of total fat and only .75 grams of saturated fat. NO trans fat at all. In short, they are GOOD FOR YOU and TASTE GREAT.

But will the kids eat them? Oh yes, they sure will. My daycare kids were here when the package arrived and I popped open a bag of the Black Bean Chips for them. They all loved them. Plus, the next day when they arrived, they all begged me to let them have Beanitos again for snacktime!

I also had one of my teenage sons come down and try all four flavors with me and he loved them all too. He agrees the Chipotle BBQ is his favorite too. And in case you were wondering, they do not cause gassy side effects. I'm so excited that these come in individual packs and I hope to see them in all the convenience stores very soon. Whenever we do road trips we stop for gas and snacks, but I rarely find healthy snacking stuff in the convenience stores. Beanitos gets FIVE STARS for their bean chips!!!

Nutrisystem Week 13 Update and Dance of Joy #NSNation

Words cannot even describe the joy of reaching this stage in my weight loss diet. I am so excited to say I've lost 20 pounds in 13 weeks on Nutrisystem! I am proud of myself for sticking to my plan. Even when faced with decisions of what foods to eat aside of the plan (like fudge for a product review) I've learned that one bite tastes just as delicious as ten or twenty bites. I'm making good choices and Nutrisystem has given me all the tools I need to succeed. My goal is to lose a total of 60 pounds, so I've still got a long way to go before I reach my goal weight, but I'm thrilled with what I've accomplished so far. Even my BMI (body mass index) has decreased from 32.7 to 29.2 in these 13 weeks. I am excited that I can wear a ladies' tshirt that fits to my body, rather than the baggy loose men's tshirts I used to hide in. Skinny jeans here I come!

Do you have any jewelry that was passed down in your family? I have a couple of pieces; one or two were expensive pieces, but mostly I have sentimental pieces that my relatives wore on a regular basis. I'm almost scared to wear the expensive ones because I would never want something to happen to them. The sentimental jewelry is easier to wear.

Review - Skillet Bacon Jam

Bacon is one of those foods that you either love or hate. There is just no in between. Personally, I love bacon. But since I'm trying to lose weight, bacon has jumped to my luxuries list for the time being. I was really excited to try Skillet Bacon Jam.

I received a sample jar with a generic label, so unfortunately I cannot share any nutritional information with you. I couldn't find any nutritional information on the website either. The ingredients listed are: Cured Bacon, Onion, Balsamic Vinegar, Brown Sugar (sugar, invert sugar, cane molasses), Salt, and Black Pepper. I did find some recipes online but rather than using it in a recipe for my first taste I decided to try it like a real jam.

I pulled out my whole grain wheat bread and slathered some bacon jam across my slice. It spreads easily and smells very good. I took a bite at room temperature and it tastes really good. Then I popped it in the microwave for 15 seconds to try it warm. That was even better!

I am going to try it with a chicken bake and maybe atop a hamburger too. The Bacon Jam website has little gift crates of multiple jars; these are perfect presents for the bacon lover! They also have a pumpkin sauce I'd love to try!
