Gift Book Review: For My Children
For My Children is a Mother's Journal of Memories, Wishes and Wisdom that YOU write. Created by Ulyssess Press, this hardback book is beautifully decorated with watercolor-style images in soft, muted colors.
It's filled with writing prompts to spark memories so mom can fill it with stories that her children and grandchildren will cherish far into the future. From questions to fill-in-the-blank lists, it is a book that can be completed over time, just a few pages at a time.
Today's busy moms often don't have time to sit down and write a full memoir and this is an excellent way to sneak in a few minutes of writing just a couple of times a week. Before mom realizes it, she's filled the 160 pages of the book!
This would be a wonderful Mother's Day gift, new mom gift, shower gift, or birthday gift. The pages are very high quality with just a touch of gloss so writing with a pen or thin-tipped marker looks very elegant. I love this book and can't wait to fill out all my pages for my kids! Pirates! Band of Misfits - Movie Review
Today is the day! Pack up your kids and go see Pirates! Band of Misfits! This hilarious movie will have kids and parents laughing all the way through. Created by the makers of Chicken Run, this animated movie is about a pirate with a self-esteem problem and a motley crew of mixed-up losers. Their crazy adventures always seem to end in disaster, but the captain is determined to win Pirate of the Year. It features the voices of Hugh Grant, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Martin Freeman and Jeremy Piven. Rated PG. Sure to be a family favorite! It's a great family comedy film that I really enjoyed watching.
Book Review - The Beauty Book by Nancy Rue (for girls)
Parents often find it difficult to find books they want their tween and teen girls to read. Since these ages are often filled with self-esteem doubt and peer pressure, it's important to provide girls with healthy, supportive confidence-builders. The Beauty Book by Nancy Rue is a wonderfully written book about growing up as a girl of God. In a straightforward voice, she talks to girls about many topics including skin, clothing, hair, makeup, shaving.
She addresses many of the concerns that girls face, like the media and their friends, who often have very different ideas about how girls should look and act. Nancy Rue points out what the Bible says God thinks of these subjects. Her writing shows girls how God and parents are there to guide them and help them. It's a beautifully written book.
I love the activity pages throughout the book that encourage girls to write what they think about different topics. It makes the book more interactive, so that girls can actually own what their thinking and reading. This would be a great book for youth groups, Girl Scout troops, and Sunday school classes. It would make a great gift for any girl. Five Stars!!

The Elephant's Trunk - Greeting Card Review
I received three greeting cards from The Elephant's Trunk and wanted to share them with you. They are printed on a very high quality paper that at first glance looks gray, but upon closer inspection is a beautiful glossy silvery color. The cards have a very simplistic look with printing only on the front so I can write whatever I want on the inside. Each comes with a matching envelope as well. They are lovely and I'm very pleased with them. Check out their Facebook page!

The Wisdom of Others - Graduation Gift Review
I am so excited to tell you about The Wisdom of Others! It's an online application where you and lots of people you know can all come together and compile a customized book filled with quotes and tips for someone for a special occasion. You can make one for a wedding, a new baby, a birthday milestone, and so many other occasions. I made one for my daughter's college graduation.
The online app is so easy to use. I just set up a free account, set up what kind of book I wanted to make, then emailed my friends and family the link where they could contribute. I also posted it to my Facebook and Twitter accounts. Some people replied to my email, so I just added those contributions myself. When I had all the contributions I thought I'd get, I ordered the book. There are different font and color choices as well.
It arrived packaged for gift-giving, but of course I wanted to see it, so I'm planning on re-wrapping it for my daughter. It's a hardback book with really high-quality pages. The printing inside was perfect with no errors.
There is even a bookmark for an added feature. I got to write the introduction, which is followed by a list of contributors to the book. The book is written with the question in front "What advice would you give a new college graduate for succeeding in life?" It can be completely customized for your needs.
I loved reading through all the quotes and tips in the book. It was touching to see what family and friends had to say to my daughter. There were a few famous quotes, some advice from others, and even a few fun remarks to make her smile.
There is even a section in the back of the book that is reserved for future contributors. Several blank pages will allow her to ask her college friends if they'd like to leave a note for her in the book. This is such a great idea for a personalized graduation gift. I can't wait to see what she thinks of it!
