Your home is your castle. It's where you spend a large part of your life. You eat in your home, you sleep in your home, and you make memories in your home. As homeowners, we try to seal up all the cracks so the air conditioning stays in during the summer and the heat stays in during the winter. By sealing up our homes, we reduce our energy costs and help to keep unwanted pests out.

This also means that the quality of the air in our homes stays pretty constant, including toxins, chemicals, molds, and bacteria. Irritants like pollen, mold spores, dust mites, dust, dander, pet hair, and viruses can accumulate in your home. These can cause substantial damage to your lungs and airways. Indoor air pollution is included in the TOP FIVE environmental hazards to the public by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. If someone in your home is a smoker, your air quality is even more compromised.

Here are some tips to help you keep your home's indoor air quality healthier:

1. Keep floors clean. Vacuum, sweep, and mop regularly. Don't wear shoes in the house unless they are indoor-use only shoes. 
2. Reduce the humidity in your home. Water can cause mold, so make sure you have no water leaks or condensation building up. Use the exhaust fans in your kitchen and bathrooms.
3. Don't allow smoking inside your home under any circumstances.
4. Open several windows to air out your home every week. If it's cold outside, even just a few minutes helps.
5. Put green plants in your house (caution: over-watering can cause mold). Plants naturally help clean toxins from the air.
6. Have your HVAC system cleaned and serviced at least once a year. Companies like Aramendia Plumbing Heating and Air in Houston hire technicians who receive extensive training in the process of air quality repair.
7. Change the air filter in your HVAC every 1-3 months. Consider spending a bit more for a more expensive, higher quality filter.
8. Window air conditioners need to be cleaned regularly. Be sure you empty drip pans.
9. Reduce the number of aerosol cans you use in your home. Opt instead for natural cleaners, natural air fresheners, and pump-style hair spray.
10. Regularly remove surface dust from the heating and air conditioning vents in your home. Keep exhaust fans and ceiling fans clean of dust as well.
11. Use a carbon monoxide detector on every floor of your home.
12. Ventilate any room where you are painting or using strong chemicals. Always look for low-chemical or natural products when possible.
13. Reduce dust mites by replacing old mattresses and steam clean your soft furniture.

Although there is no fool-proof way to completely eliminate air pollution in your home, it's important to make even small changes. If you have family members with allergies, asthma, or other respiratory issues, the more changes you can make, the safer your air quality. 

Pork Rinds Crusty Veggies #Recipe

Pork Rinds from Southern Recipe are not just for snacking. With a bit of imagination and creativity, they also make fabulous seasonings and toppings. In our never-ending quest to eat healthy while still enjoying what we eat, I created a recipe called Pork Rinds Crusty Veggies and they turned out so delicious, I decided to share with you!

Take one bag of Sweet BBQ Pork Rinds and dump the entire bag into a plastic zipper bag. Make sure it zips closed completely! 

 Take a rolling pin and smash all the pork rinds into a crispy, crunchy, chunky mess.

 Add one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and toss in some

fresh or frozen broccoli/cauliflower mix. (I used frozen.)

Mix all the ingredients in the plastic zipper bag until the veggies are coated.

 Bake uncovered in the oven at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.

 It's a delicious and tricky way to get your family to eat more vegetables!

You could probably do this with just about any veggie.

OMG Nail Strips - Review

I've been a nail-biter my entire life. The only thing that keeps me from biting my nails is not wanting to mess up a nice nail polish. I'm not very good at painting my own nails and getting a manicure is just too expensive for me. I was so excited to try OMG Nail Polish Strips because they look easy to use. The package comes with two strips of nail wraps, or nail stickers, each with seven nail tabs for optimum sizing and minimized trimming. Then I just followed the easy directions on omgnailstrips.com for application!

To apply OMG Nail Strips: 
Soak your hands in warm water for 5 minutes.
Dry hands, then gently push back cuticles.
Carefully remove any excess skin around the nail bed.
Moisturize your hands with lotion, and wait 1 minute.
Using a Q-tip, remove any leftover lotion from the nail bed, paying special attention to the sidewalls, cuticle area and tip of the fingernail.
Select the appropriate sized nail strip for each nail to ensure the nail will be covered from sidewall to sidewall. Using a nail strip that is too large for a particular nail is not recommended; rather, trim the strip the scissors to the appropriate width.
Peel off the clear coating, and then carefully remove the nail polish strip from the sticker backing, Start by placing whichever end on the nail strip that works better for your nails at the cuticle and apply it by smoother the strip towards the tip and your nail, smoothing out and bumps and ensuring the strip is tucked neatly into the sidewalls.
File away any excess nail strip by holding your nail file parallel to the surface you are working on, as filing the nail perpendicularly will cause tearing along the tip.
After you have applied all ten polish strips, take a cotton ball the has been dipped in polish removed with the excess remover wrung out, and swipe each nail 1-3 times, paying special attention to the sidewalls, tips and cuticle area. This step is especially important, as it melts the strip to your nails, allowing for longer lasting wear.
Apply a finishing topcoat, and wait 5 minutes for it to dry completely.

I like the way my nails look and I've managed to not bite my nails off with OMG Nail Strips. They were pretty quick to apply and they are a very affordable alternative to an expensive manicure. Peanut Butter Nookie Cookies

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large bowl, mix together 2 cups of PB Crave Cookie Nookie,

2 eggs, 2 cups of sugar, and 2 tsp of baking soda.

Make 1 inch peanut butter balls and place on cookie sheet.

Using a fork, criss-cross the top of each cookie to flatten.

Bake for 12 minutes. Cool on wire rack.

What would happen to you if you started borrowing money to pay your debts? How much debt do you think you could (and would) rack up if you had no limit? Would you just keep spending? If you cannot afford something you must either save up for it or borrow it. Saving money for what you want is a great lesson in self-control, self-discipline, and delayed gratification. Borrowing money for what you want will only put your future in debt because there is no guarantee that you will have the money later. Therefore, if you don't have the cash for it, don't buy it. Teach your children the value of money early. Teach them the word "no" and show them how to save up money they earn. You can do this by assigning each child jobs around the house each day and have them keep track of their chores on a piece of paper, which they turn in to you to get paid for the work they do. Be a good example for your family by watching your own spending and keeping to a budget. Hopefully the government will someday learn these simple guidelines!
